Revelation 1:1-3

The Revelation
The most important thing being revieled in this book, is also the main subject of the entire Bible. The person of Jesus Christ. We notice that This is the "Revelation

of Jesus Christ"
This is before any other revelation. It has priority over the future, because how you deal with revelation of future events depends on how you deal with the revelation of Jesus Christ. Christ is revield as our Lord and Savior, and we are called to repent of our sins and believe in His name. Without this we cannot begin to understand the rest of this book, or any other book in God's Holy Word.
We will see the relevation of Jesus in the book of Revelation later in this chapter.
, which God gave unto him,
Two things here.
1. The reason why we believe this revelation: Because it is given from God. There are no other ways to get truth, but by Him. The Cannon of Scripure Revelation is closed, and we must guard aganst extra-biblical revelation. People claiming this are discredited by the very book of Revelation, and we must seperate ourselves from those who do this, or we show ourselves to endorse it ourselves.
2. God always has a reason for a revelation that He gives, and it is a warning, and a blessing, a glimpse into the future.
to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass;
These things written in this book are soon upon us, and many things told about here may be rising in our world, and in our nation, and even in our churches. We must know the truth, and guard it closely, very very closely.
and he sent and signified it by his angel
unto his servant John:
This is so important that God sent one of his angles make it known unto John, so he could write it for us to read. -CM
2 Who bare record of the word of God,
What an important thing to have the opertunity to bare record of. The very Word of the Living God. I believe that John wrote exactly what God revieled unto him, and that he took heed to make sure he was true to every Word that came from the mouth of God. We must take after this example and rightly divide the Word of Truth. This is God's Word, not John's, and we must treat it as such.
and of the testimony of Jesus Christ,
I think this also a referance to the time John spent on earth with Jesus. It is the testimony of Jesus Christ that he bore record of, and not the revelation. This leads me to believe that this referance is of Jesus life on the earth, as a testiment to who John is and why he is credible to share God's revelation of Jesus Christ.
and of all things that he saw.
This is a testiment to both the things he saw of Jesus in Christ's three years on earth along with what he saw being revieled of Jesus and things which must shorty come to pass in the future.
3 Blessed is he that readeth,
and they that hear
the words of this prophecy,
and keep those things which are written therein:
There is a progression here. That progression shows me that this blessing is not only for those that read this alone, or those that hear this alone. But this is for those that read and hear this prophecy 'AND KEEP those things which are written therein. ' There is a blessing in keeping this. In acting on what has been read and heard. In acting on the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Repent is the message. The revelation of Christ is Savior, both in the gospels and in this book. He preached repentance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Or another way to put it:
"for the time is at hand."
